Engine and clutch (stock)/Firing order

The engine and distributor both rotate clockwise. Sequential ignition is typically referenced starting with cylinder #1 (passenger side, closest to front of car).
Each of the four cylinders in the engine is referenced by number. Those numbers and their positions relative to the car are shown in the illustration. You can also see how the wires connect from the distributor to each of the four cylinders.
More information about the position of the pistons is available in top dead center.
